NYPD officer Jayme Shannon was convicted and sentenced to prison for sex crimes involving a minor. For betraying the public’s trust and forever ruining the live of a young boy, Officer Shannon was ONLY given 3 years in jail – that was 12 years ago.
Now, former officer Shannon has been convicted and sentenced AGAIN for sex crimes. However, he has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison this time. Jayme Shannon pleaded guilty last year to charges that he met a 15-year-old boy online, went to his New York home, and then took him to a motel in Fort Lee to have sex with the underage boy.
(If that’s not enough, former officer Shannon, way back in 2003, though he was meeting up with a 14-year-old boy to have sex. It turned out that he met an undercover police officer instead.)
Shannon has spent the last year in Essex County Correctional Facility on lock-down after inmates found out that he was an officer and a convicted child predator / sexual offender.
How many chances do cops get? Had a regular citizen committed the same crimes, they would be in prison – for life. However, given his officer status during his first conviction, he was merely sentenced to 3 years in jail – jail, not prison. Double-standards have to stop. Innocent men, women, and even our precious children are paying the price for these police officers.
